Young Queen Painting
This painting's completed - for now anyway. It didn't turn out quite the way I expected. I wanted to use more washes and transparent layers, but my planning wasn't so good and the underpainting was too rough. It's not very big - about 11" by 15". This of course is oil on canvas.
I'm not too crazy about the title. She looks more like a peasant than a queen. Perhaps she's in disguise.
Although it is not meant to be Tolkien's character, this painting was inspired by Éowyn from The Return of The King. You can click on the label below to see the painting in it's various stages.

That is really really fine, anthony. I know it's a tremendous amount of work, but you should do these more often.
Thanks Ben. I'm wanting to have several done before the end of the year. hope it works out
Gorgeous!! Great colours.
Check out the "grandpa" quentin I just posted....
My first impression was "Joan of Arc" when I saw the painting. While queen doesn't pop into my mind I think it's a very fine painting. (And why Joan of Arc popping to mind is beyond me.)
Thanks Eric! I'll check it out
thanks JPT, and your not the only one who thought Joan of Arc. I've had several people mention that to me. I was thinking of calling it "Courage"or something along those lines. kind of symbolic maybe.
I might post this question out on the blog - what would be a good title?
I have to say it looks pretty darn good to me.
Hey thanks Michael!
hey brother, I think it's fantastic. And I've been taking note of those heavy lower eye lids you are so known for and I'm trying to improve on my depictions of eyes!
Thanks Joe!
I just received the latest issue of Gilbert Magazine today, and wanted to tell you how excellent this is. I like the name Resolve too.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you stopped by and commented.
Found your blog via the Catholic Illustrator's Guild. She is simply beautiful!
Please make sure to give a shout if you ever decide to make prints available. I would be sorely tempted. :)
Thanks Courtney! will do! :)
I spotted this painting on the cover of Gilbert Magazine. I was certain that it was Joan of Arc. She is always portrayed in a suit of mail and I thought this rendition brought out her femininity. I love the way her hands are resting in a relaxed state on the sword. "Resolve" fits her personality to a T. I think it's beautiful. Dave Busch
Thanks you so much, David! for stopping by and for the kind words!
I was breathtaken by this painting ! She looks exactly like I would imagine a young queen. You see a large amount of female power when you look at her ! Thank you for making this.
