About three years ago, I formed the habit of drawing my two youngest brothers in cartoon form. The style was a bit more simplistic (like the drawings above) and I used the practice to loosen up. It would also keep the little ones more or less entertained. I would sketch them having crazy adventures... being kidnapped by aliens... joining the French Foreign Legion... all sorts of silly things. I also remember how they would slip out of the room to play with their toys or watch a movie, leaving me to sit and draw for hours. (Now I wonder who was baby-sitting who!)I thought I would try it again this weekend and I put color to one. (by the way, this is unlike my youngest brother to throw a water balloon at an unsuspecting girl - he's not that bad!)
And here’s another pesky siblings idea sketch. Recently I’ve had the pleasure of sharing some of my personal space with a couple of “tadpolts,” so I found this drawing apropos.

Really cool. i like the style.
Love the style...very fun and cute.
How would you feel about doing a comic?
Thanks Josh!
Thanks Aris! I'm not too familiar with comics... right now I'm trying to learn as much as I can about children's literature... It's amazing to see how that business operates!
Oh Anthony, I can so relate. As 2nd oldest of 7, I spent alot of time drawing my little brothers & sisters. Megan was our baby, I am 15 yrs. older, I used to pose her all the time. She was & still is so pretty.
Not long ago, she was remembering how I used to draw her, and she said "You owe me a drawing of a unicorn !" I had apparently told her, this was years ago, if she sat real still, I would draw her a unicorn, but instead I was drawing her...She was so mad. I don't remember this day. But, the cool thing is, she does. So, you are making great memory's for your brothers. :)These are wonderful drawings. Amy
French Foreign Legion?!? How cool of a baby sitter were you? these are amazing picture and I'm so impresses at your range. And that's what you look like! We have the same hat!
Recently I was hanging out with the neighbors kid's and we found a 100 year old map in the front yard I had buried....
Isn't it great Amy, to be the big brother or sister... I'm surprised at some of the old stories they remember... even when they get testy, it's a blessing to have them around... and thanks for the compliment! :)
Hi Eric! Thanks! You have a hat like this one? I got this for my birthday... it makes a great studio hat! and very funny about the map :D I remember ruining some of my favorite possessions with a poorly sealed time capsule :)
Hey Anthony- nice to SEE you! -I like the cartoons!- they are vivacious and loose and alive- it's not surprising you can do that well also!-K
Hi Kelly! Yep, that's me :) I'm glad you like the cartoons... Thanks!
Hey there! I love these-- they are full of life- so rich.. great work!
So, what are your plans right now? Where do you want to be a year from now? Are you working on a dummy? Building a portfolio? Just building some skills?
I tell you what, watching your sketches really makes me want to study hard so hopefully soon, i'll 'catch up' with you!
Take care my friend-
Aja
Hey Aja! Thanks!
Goodness, a year from now?! things seem so crazy I can't even guess :) Right now I'm trying to get everything ready for the Regional SCBWI conference this fall. It will be a HUGE learning experience for me. I want to make sure I don't rush it... I have a lot to learn about the industry and I can't wait to speak to the artists and writers face to face..
I do have a book dummy that's almost complete... I haven't mentioned it before. I'll try and post something about it in the coming weeks.
Thank you again Aja... you're way too kind! in fact you're making me blush.
I'm very glad to have met you! :)
Wow, love your sketches!!
Happy Potato Greetings,
