The Little Mermaid Sketch 1

This is the first image for a group of illustrations pertaining to "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen. The story is packed with emotion and being a children's classic, drew my attention.

In this image the Little Mermaid is preparing to swim to the surface, having looked at her home for the last time. She has just received a potion from the Sea Witch that will change her into a human, and the cost for that potion was her voice.

Very nice.
I love the glow effect and the hair.

I think its nice that you went for the more classic naked feel but covered her up to the point that its in question.

As a black and white I feel it might need some more in a few places along the bottom areas. It just has so many big fields of undefined grey at the bottom (it just doesnt work as nice as the big swirls along the top do).
However as a color those areas could be very nice.

That said, its nit picking.
Its all very lovely.

Anthony,
I'd like to add my WOW to the list. Your skills as a draftsman show clearly. This piece has a lovely glow and she is entrancing. I think you have a unique style and should be able to translate that into lots of work.
All the best,
priscilla
